U.S. students taught that Muslim women 'have had some rights that American women did not have'

In an astoundingly false study of women in Islam, a federally funded study program offered to public schools teaches students that “Muslim women have had some rights for centuries that American women did not have until the 19th and 20th centuries.”

The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Education and made available in a program entitled, “Access Islam,” through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Students are taught to “compare and contrast the rights and protections Islam has provided for women with the history of women’s rights in the United States.

“There is no comparison!” said Martin Mawyer, president of Christian Action Network. “Women in Islam aren’t even considered to have the same level of rights as a man, they are allowed to be abused, forced into polygamous marriages, they are forbidden birth control, and in many countries they must completely hide their faces. This is even happening here in the United States.”

Students are required to watch videos of Muslim women in America, with the misleading images of happy Muslim women cheerfully accepting their subservient roles to men.

Students are also taught about a “Drive for an Islamic Sorority at U. of Kentucky” and asked to consider why female Muslim students want their own sorority.

Another lesson requires students to study “Accommodating Muslim Modesty in Public Pools” and “Celebrating Eid al-Adh at the Mall of America.”

“Both of these studies are clearly designed to get American students to accept Muslims’ demand for special accommodations in our social institutions,” Mawyer said. “But Christians and non-Muslims are never given the same accommodations, and that fact is not being taught in our schools.”

Students are also taught that Muslim women in America are “able to enjoy American life and still maintain their religious values. Have you ever had to make minor adjustments in your life so you could make yourself or others happy?”

Mawyer again pointed out that the instruction is patently false.

“I know from having spoken with Muslims who live on Islamic enclaves in America that the women are frequently beaten, they are not allowed to see doctors, they are not allowed to practice birth control, they are forced at early ages into polygamous marriages, and they live like total and complete prisoners without any hope of escape.

“Are students being taught any of this?” he continued. “Obviously not.”

In one lesson students are asked to read an essay entitled, “More Rights Than One Might Think,” which falsely teaches that Muslim women have equal rights to men in Islamic societies both in America and around the world.

They are falsely taught that “the Quran explicitly states that men and women are equal in the eyes of God.

In fact, the Quran teaches: Quran (2:228) – “and the men are a degree above them [women]”

In Quran (4:11) - (Inheritance) “The male shall have the equal of the portion of two females.”

Students are also falsely taught that the Quran instructs Muslims to educate daughters as well as sons. A little girl in Pakistan was shot in the head a few years ago for daring to go to school.

Female genital mutilation occurs in every Islamic country. Mawyer noted that the "Women in Islam" study being taught to America's school students do not mention this barbaric practice.

“Space doesn’t permit me to list all the atrocities that women in Islam have endured over the centuries,” Mawyer commented, “from acid attacks, to female genital mutilation, to murder at the hands of fathers of brothers for showing their faces. Women in Islam are treated like slaves, pure and simple. Our little girls in our public schools should not be taught to emulate this horrific lifestyle.”

Acid attacks against Muslim women are carried out by family members when the women disobey the rules, such as uncovering their faces or wearing jeans in public.
